Freeman can be the franchise QB we've been looking for.

I'm hopeful, but don't know if Freeman can be the guy.

Freeman irrelevant. Likely won't play in 2013 and will be gone in 2014.

Bad. His presence will distract Cassel and Ponder from playing well.

Awful move, Vikes will make him our franchise and he will fail

Putting anyone on the field other than Ponder is a mistake

Im am really surprised how many think Freeman or Cassel will be starting this week. Our illustrious HC has said repeatedly its Ponder. Does anyone know who has the most reps with the first team? I think some of you forget we are dealing with Fraizer here. And Ponder is still Spielman's hand picked QB. The Wilfs paying Freeman 2-3 million is peanuts.

I'll bet you $20 with 10-1 odds Ponder doesn't start this Sunday.

He's coach speaking. Cassel is starting.

Cassel took first-team reps today. Ponder 2nd team, limited participation. Freeman, third.

This. Even Carolina is on record as saying they are preparing for Cassel. Coach Speak: Ponder is still our Quarterback. This is true - #7 will wear a Vikings Jersey as the #3 QB or until he is traded/cut. In that sense he is "our quarterback".
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

dude, it's a 4-6 week injury, it's been 2 weeks, he's not super man he can't heal that fast, you need to get over it, Ponder's done and nothing you say can put him on the field.

Ponder's injury has very little to do with him not starting.

Paul Allen interviewed Frazier this week (today?) and he said Ponder has "an injury.....(pause as he realizes he needs to make it sound bad enough to keep him from starting this week).... a serious injury"

he ain't starting.

Exactly. Hard to prove it, but that was my point. Ive had rib injuries as a roofer and playing foortball. You do NOT fracture a rib and not know it. You cant even breath until the pain meds kick in. But as long as he isn't starting, I am happy. I will be ecstatic if we ever do find our future QB.

You make a good point. An average, veteran QB could come in and practice for a week and at least make decent slant/screen passes -- which for the most part has been our "successful" passing game with Ponder.

It'll be interesting to see what Frazier/Spielman do if Cassel wins the next couple games. You don't sign Freeman for 3 mill and 1 year w/ hopes of him being a franchise QB without playing him at least 5 games ths year.
See Im no sure that Cassel will start outside of this game against Carolina. It also good to remember the fact that Cassel was not sign to be a starter but an insurance policy. Im sure Cassel thought he had a chance to start here and he was right because, it was only a matter of time before the team got tired of Ponder. It seems like Freeman is "the guy." I kept hearing Frazier saying something about limiting to playbook because he wont be able to grasp it all in just a few weeks. So Im thinking maybe that Freeman could start this Sunday, but the playcalling would be very vanilla. But we are already 31st in passing so I don't think Freeman starting this sunday will have that bad of an effect unless he just really sucks that bad.

I really hate being put in the position of defending what may be fictitious, but (as I said before!) just because YOU knew you broke your ribs right away does not mean EVERYONE does. I broke ribs and DID NOT KNOW until at least a day or two later. So I have to say, this whole set of possible lies might very well be at least partly the truth. We really don't know.

Yea. The Vikings are definitely hoping Freeman is a franchise QB. He was way above average before Schiano got to Tampa. And from what I've heard, Schiano is a stubborn, "my way or the highway" type coach. Frazier has the personality to coach him, and we have strong leaders on our roster.

Freeman wants to prove something after his mess in Tampa. I feel it is setting up nicely for the Vikings. :v):

He's been in the league 5 years. He isn't a franchise quarterback. He's had one good year. And a bunch of average ones. They hope he's better than what they have, which is he. And younger than their best QB, Cassel, which he is. But beyond that? Let's hope they don't think they're done at the position, they still need a franchise QB. Because Freeman isn't that. Teams don't cut franchise Qbs...

mondry wrote: Yeah, that's the picture I'm getting from every bucs fan I've talked to as well. He's basically a firery hot mess where his good attributes become a downside (passion, energy, etc) because he applies them to aggressively and recklessly. As you can tell from the Freeman interviews / conference calls / etc, you can tell he's a bit laid back and schiano couldn't stand that about him. I guess he wanted a Philip Rivers type that would start throwing a tantrum when guys mess up or whatever.

I've also read his "style" is pretty old school that a lot of players don't like. The whole "We're just going to hit them in the mouth" and out work everyone. Lyzarde, would you say this guy is basically childress 2.0?
OK, players don't like the coach. Does that justify one particular player missing the team photo? Supposedly being put into the league's substance abuse policy? Throwing 2x the number of picks per game as TDs over the last couple of games? For a guy in a contract year at the league's most valuable position?

What about Drew Brees? He was brought in to be San Diego's franchise QB but things didn't go so well and they let him walk. Now he's in NO and it's safe to say that he is the franchise player over there. He has a ring and San Diego has yet to win one. So I think its safe to say not all teams know a good QB when they have one.

In our case we are still to inept to draft a quality QB. However, Freeman and Ponder are around the same age. Freeman seems to have more signs of progression than Ponder. So Freeman could potentially be the guy, seeing as he is still young and still has time to improve.
