Just bought my ticket for the Cowgirls game today. There will be at least four Vikings fans sitting in section 249.

Cool! I hope you have a blast.
I live in Fort Worth now. I was born and raised in the Twin Cities, but have lived in TX (Austin, previously) the last 11 years. I have always hated the Cowboys, and I tend to enjoy NFL games more from the comforts of home. If my brothers, who are also die-hard Viking fans as well, were around I'd go... but they live in distant corners of the world and my brother in law and his crew are all Cowboys fans. So I decided to save the cash for other forms of entertainment or travel, but you can be sure I'll watch from home. I'll keep my eyes open for the Vikes fans in the crowd. Perhaps you will get some TV time!

Unfortunately I haven't seen a Viking home game yet. It's on my bucket list. I've been to Tampa in '78. Houston in '86 and 2004. Orange Bowl '79. Kansas City in '99. In '78 they were asking questions about the Vikes and buying us beers! The worst was K.C. It was a Sunday night game televised on ESPN in December. Vikes lost. Carter got hurt and was helped off the field. The fans were cheering and I got showered with cold beer. The temperature was 28 degrees. You see, they don't have much in Missouri so they take that loser organization very seriously. My father in law apoligized and my mother in law was crying. Apparently every word in that state starts with the letter "F". My advice is don't wear any purple which would tip your hand. We were catching hell in the parking lot before we even made it to the stadium. Jeff George was the Q.B. Your "welcome" will be dictated by the fans that surround you. If it is a crappy less expensive section you'll probably catch some hell. Good Luck!

Have you ever tried 'Little Sumpin Sumpin' from the Lagunitas Brewing Co.?Texas Vike wrote:
I am typically not fond of live games or any event with throngs of people. I'd rather watch in the comfort of my own home w/ some quality craft beer and good food instead of $10 domestic taps from a plastic cup and $15 nachos...
Your thoughts?

No, but it sounds interesting. I typically love IPAs, but am less fond of wheat beers. That mix is intriguing. I'm currently at the lake cabin in MN so I picked up the local powerhouse Surly Furious, as well as a new one to me that is tops too, Indeed Daytripper.
TX is too hot this time of year for IPAs, so it's nice that it's a cool 72 degrees today w/ a breeze off the lake

I see you're in Ashland. How do you like it there? Is it east of the cascades, and thus drier than the coast? I biked the coast many moons ago, beautiful country.

I really enjoy Ashland.(enough to be building a cabin here on the property I work on) It's(Ashland) in a little nook where the Southern Cascades, the Siskiyous and the Marble Mountains all converge in what is known as the Klamath Knot. Lotsa river rafting, fishing and Mt biking riding etc. Much drier here and very hot in the summer compared to the coast but lots of rain in the winter.....I have a habit of fleeing to Hawaii those months. The Oregon Coast, actually all of the PNW Coast, is pretty darn stunning and a great place to escape the heat of summer.Texas Vike wrote:

Tons of micro-brews in Oregon and Nor-Cal. That Little Sumpin Sumpin really packs a punch. Haven't heard of those brews you mentioned. There must be some kind of national micro-brew convention somewhere where all the different regions brews can be sampled.

I'm like you regarding watching football. Went to my first big crowd game last season where I saw the Ducks play in Eugene. Loud and crazy. I have to admit I enjoy watching on TV better...but I would go see the Vikings at least once. Contemplating the drive to Seattle this season if I can swing it.

Yeah, the Pacific NW is just stunning. I spent a year in Bellingham, WA and really enjoyed all the Mt. Biking and hiking. I'd love the rafting in your neck of the woods. TX is terrible for outdoor recreation, but there are other things I like about it.
There actually are beer festivals like you mention. I went to one recently in Fort Worth that had something like 150 craft beers and great live music. The beers I mentioned are from the Twin Cities, which has a stellar beer culture. Check it out if you're ever in town (esp. the surly tap room).
Ashland's where the Shakespeare Festival is and the University, right? I bet Eugene has beer festivals.
Back to the thread's topic: I'd love to see the Vikes play at home or with a good troupe of friends/family that are fans of the Purple in enemy territory. Until that perfect storm scenario comes about, I'll just watch from home w/ good brewskis!

Yeah, Ashland has the big Shakespeare festival and Liberal arts College....many activists here. It all makes for some eccentric citizens.Texas Vike wrote:Yeah, the Pacific NW is just stunning. Bellingham is a really cool place to spend some time IMO. Great mountain there.
I would imagine every weekend is a beerfest in Eugene. I would hesitate to wager on there being more strains of ganja vs flavors of micro-brews there. Then there is all the wine popping up here in the last decade, as well as coffee roasters. Sobriety is not the fashion here.
I've only driven through Minneapolis a few times...it sure looks like a beautiful city, though I haven't seen it in the winter. Everyone I have ever met from there gave me good vibes too. I've only been to the airport in Houston as far as Texas goes. The heat scares me....but I would definitely spend time in Austin given the chance.

end of thread drift~

Drink beer before, sneak in some vodka, a snickers bar and some sunflower seeds. Then, if nothing else, just enjoy the ridiculousness of the inginuity of the building.
And... Cheer loud for the Vikes.

Austin's a great city, lived there for 7 years and miss it dearly. Fantastic music scene, lots of great restaurants, UT brings in a good mix of people, and surprisingly good biking. Definitely worth a stop. Big Bend National Park in far west TX is also a worthy destination if you're into desert scenery--I've seen lots of VW campers w/ Oregon plates there in the winter. The Breeze wrote: Yeah, Ashland has the big Shakespeare festival and Liberal arts College....many activists here. Nice comments on MPLS. It really is a terrific, and IMO underestimated, city. If it weren't so cold for so long I think it would be overrun w/ people moving from the coasts looking for more affordable options.
Alright, enough thread drift. Even though I started the thread certain posters get pretty worked up about staying on topic!

Wow! Just did an image search for that place. Very nice. I'm going to have to check that place out sometime...it's huge! Thanks for the tip.Texas Vike wrote:

On the topic of stadium experiences, I've been to vikings 49ers in sf, giants 49ers in sf and vikings chargers in sd.
Like I said previously, 49ers fans were terrible but chargers were pretty good for the most part.
Thwre will always be the bad fans wherever you go but not to many in sd. When Percy returned the opening kickoff for td, the sd fans turned around and gave me a high five respectively. There was one idiot yelling "look at all the #### in lavender!" And another charger fan yelled "says the guy in baby blue!" The baby blue got kicked out later on.
