Urlacher

Post by MV711 »

Based on his petigree, experience and leadership, he could be a good addition for a year or so while we draft a MLB in the draft for the future or pick up a FA MLB. Yes he has had injuries and has lost a step but he brings all the aforementioned attributes to the Vikes if we could get him at the right price.. IF he stays healthy he could be a great addition. I'm hoping Cole works out well at MLB but only time will tell!!

Umm....No.

Urlacher was great, but he looked like a hobbled old man when I saw him play last. The right price would be about the league minimum, but I don't see that happening. (Nor do I really want it to).

He was injured. But that only works for *our* players. Simpson looked pathetic but by golly he had a bad back! Allens sacks were down and he struggled, but his shoulder was hurt!

Bring him in for a couple years. He'll "help the young guys" (Which only works with guys we want/got so again maybe not  )

Urlacher playing MLB for us > Anyone other then a 1st rounder. And even then it'll take them time to learn the system and catch up to the speed of the game

If we're going to be pursuing/signing veterans then what the hell let's do it.

Also means we don't *have* to draft a position just because we have a hole *right now*.

If we draft Brown/Ogletree/Te'o then fine, but as of right now? C'mon man!

Thats what makes me think we will be taking a line backer in the first round. Dont rule out having Erin move to mlb and us taking an outsider either!

Urlacher would be a good addition to the team but I dont think he can still play a full season without getting injured. This team is a young team but at the same time they have the potential to compete. We cant compete when our top MLB is injured for half of the season. So no thanks. I rather get a 1st rounder.

Find me one quote where I have made that justification for "our players." Having said that, if he was injured, maybe that's a consideration, but if the guy is that good why are all my Bear fan friends kidding me about MN picking him up. His own team's fans think its a good idea to "unload him."
Bring him in for a couple years. He'll "help the young guys" (Which only works with guys we want/got so again maybe not  )
Again - If you're trying to equate him to Winfield (mentoring the younger guys) then I can see your point, but Winfield actually did something on the field, in addition to mentoring the rookies. Minnesota's defense was noticably better when Winfield was on the field. Can you say the same thing about Chicago last year?

First, I disagree that he'd be better than anyone other than a 1st rounder. Second, No we don't *have* to draft a position *right now*. We went the "aging veteran" strategy at the QB position for years. Is that where you are suggesting we go at LB too?

Look if we can get Urlacher at little or no impact to the cap, then yeah, what's the harm? It's sort of like having Webb on the 90 man roster: Sure, give him a shot, but when it comes to having to take a risk at the expense of the "real roster" I'd say "no"

You just wrote this in the Manti Te'o thread in the Draft section on Thursday:
If we take him I won't be upset because I don't think he'll be a good solid player for us, I'll be upset every time an easy third down given up because he couldn't get his butt to where it needed to be. Or when they take him out and Erin/Greenway has to step in on passing downs! The defensive system isn't going to change. The personnel have to match it.
The Bears aren't changing systems but had no problem letting Urlacher walk because, despite his vast amount of experience in the system, he doesn't run well enough to meet the necessities of the MLB position in the Tampa 2 anymore.

His experience could undoubtedly be helpful but he's exactly what you have repeatedly said you don't want: a player past his prime who doesn't match the system.

Such a brilliant plan to bring in the washed up Urlacher that not even the Bears want anymore
On the other side of the coin you have to look at all the fresh new crying, complaining and naysaying that those "fans" will have to complain about if they draft the midget, noodle legged, Teo. I can't wiat to read all of the post draft and game day threads

you can't turn over a roster in 1 offseason through the draft. it takes a few years.

If the MLB they want falls to them on Thursday, then great take him and don't look back. However, the worst thing they could do is reach for a player just because they have a dire need. There are plenty of holes to fill (1 more due to Winfield's departure) so it would be devastating to take a guy too early just because of the gaping hole in the middle.

If the guy they want is gone, I'd much rather they take BPA at WR, CB, DT, OG and sign Urlacher for a year or 2 as a stop gap, than reach and spend a 1st round pick on 2nd or 3rd round value.

Just for future reference, it's spelled "pedigree."

I personally think Urlacher's done. I'd rather move forward with a highly selected (rd 1 or 2) rookie. Cole had that one nice breakout preseason game w/ two pick 6s, but he's unlikely to be anything but a special-teams ace and backup LB. That, and a hell of a dove slaughterer.

Of course, you could have simply written "Thanks, but I knew that already. It was just a typo".

Funny. Typos or typo's? Plural or possessive? Or was that just a typo too?

Listen, I know tone is difficult to assess on the internet, so let me clarify. My intention was not to make you look bad or be mean. There's no need to get hostile. If you want folks to respect your thoughts you should express them well.
